The Six Books

The last couple of weeks, have been busy and full of changes. However, one thing that remains the same is my love of books. There is nothing I enjoy more than being lost in a book. Being consumed by one that you stay up late to finish the book. I have done that and it is a worthy distraction when life itself is more than enough.

Recently, my friend and I ran some errands around town. He does not have car and needed some crafting materials for an upcoming non-profit event. We went around from Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby, and Dollar Tree. Eventually, he got the materials he needed for the price he wanted. We still wanted to hangout so we went to Barnes and Noble.

My usual routine is to pick up each book that peaks my interest. Sometimes that it is the cover and other times it is the words on the page. My friend selected a few poetry books and we found a table and read the books. I read the first page and if the words grip me, I will continue to read and will buy the book. I selected six titles and spread them out on the table.

From the titles I selected, I was in the mood for fiction except for the Cheston Knapp book which is a selection of essays. I needed to create a story in my head and escape. The essay collection was humorous and I love a good laugh. Now that I put the books on the table, I read the first couple of pages of each book.

Sorry to Disrupt the Peace

My first selection and you should read this book.

My first selection that I started reading immediately is Sorry to Disrupt the Peace by Patty Cottrell The first sentence drew me into the book, "September 30th, the day I received the news of my adoptive brother's death, I also received a brand-new couch from IKEA."

How can you not want to continue reading? That's exactly what I did and told my friend he should read the first sentence too.

My second selection was Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. I tried reading the book when it first came out a few years ago, I didn't match with the book. I did not want to read a book about a relationship. Now, I read the first couple of pages and matched with it the book was well priced so it became my back-up selection.

After reading each selection, I settled on these two books and I will read them. The first will be Sorry to Disrupt the Peace. I'm excited to see how that book will be.
